Lie to Me: Lying Virtual Agents
نویسنده
چکیده
The objective of this thesis was to endow agents with the ability to model the mind of other agents and to use this information on their reasoning process. We developed an architecture which enables N levels of Theory of Mind. Additionally we wanted to assess if a reasoning ability capable of more then one level would be perceived as more socially intelligent than one with only one level. For this purpose we focused our work on deception behaviour generation. Key concepts from the field of Psychology were reviewed regarding this topic, while some works which tried to implement a similar goal were also mentioned. A case study was developed to compared liars with one level and second level Theory of Mind. The evaluation itself was composed of preliminary, simulation and a final questionnaire. The results showed to be consistent with our hypothesis that the more reasoning abstraction level of a Theory of Mind, the better agents can performed deceptive tasks.

Lie to Me : Virtual Agents that Lie ( Extended
In order to deceive, agents need Theory of Mind capabilities (ToM), that is, the capability to model the others, and reason about the consequences of their actions and their implications in them. In this paper we provide a model for deceptive agents that use a theory of mind with N levels. We then present a case study that was used to compare deceptive agents with one level and with two levels ...
متن کاملWhen is it okay to lie? A simple model of contraditcion in agent-based dialogues
When is it okay to lie? And what constitutes a lie, anyway? This paper examines the notion of lying in agent-based systems, focusing on dialogues and situations where it is acceptable for agents to utter locutions that contradict their beliefs. We examine situations in human and animal behavior where lying — acting or making statements that contradict one’s set of beliefs — is considered to be ...
متن کاملMeasuring the cognitive resources consumed per second for real-time lie-production and recollection: a dual-tasking paradigm
This research report presents a novel method of dual-tasking lie-detection. Novel software "Follow Me" was invented for a concurrent eye-hand coordination task during truth-telling/lying. Undergraduate participants were instructed to tell truths on questions about undergraduate school whereas they were instructed to tell lies on interview questions about graduate school, pretending they were gr...

My dear Foster Her Majesty's sanction has been obtained. The G.O.M. is not murdered – only 'fillipped with a three man beetle' as the fat knight has it. 1 Strong language is my aversion – especially about an adversary – but if I have not shown the G.O.M. to be a lying, ignorant, pretentious humbug, 'call me horse' – as again the fat knight saith. 2 Ever yours T. H. Huxley 1 " fillip me with a t...
متن کاملPants on fire: the electrophysiological signature of telling a lie.
Even though electroencephalography has played a prominent role for lie detection via personally relevant information, the electrophysiological signature of active lying is still elusive. We addressed this signature with two experiments in which participants helped a virtual police officer to locate a knife. Crucially, before this response, they announced whether they would lie or tell the truth...
